Our Garage Sale for Shelter has passed and I have “garage sale let down”…plain and simple. We spend so much time preparing for those 5 hours and it is over in a heart beat. Don’t get me wrong, the physical reminders last a few days (!) but, the coming together of the community through donations and volunteers (the part I love) is over until next year 🙁
The result of this hard work (and months of planning and storage) by myself, Marija, my family and our volunteers is $3145 of proceeds that will go directly to the Red Door Shelter. AMAZING! Exceeded all of our expectations…and all of the previous year’s total too!
For all of the very generous people that donated items for us to sell- we could not have done this without you. Saving your items for us year after year is so thoughtful. Without your generous spirit we would not have taken up two lawns, and had to set up a day in advance… and hire security to baby sit the items over night- WOW. Three cheers and a thank you to you all.
The people who volunteered on May 9th were remarkable. They show such dedication by arriving as the sun comes up and hanging on until the Goodwill truck is packed up and ready to depart. These helpers gladly haul items, cook food, make cotton candy, run the Candy Guess station…and they do it all happily, with good cheer and community spirit. I appreciate each and everyone of you…there is no way we could continue to do this without your help. Thank you. Thank you. Insert another three cheers here!
So much fun and so many great pictures- here is one of my favourites!

Please know that remaining items were donated to City Street Outreach, Clothesline and Goodwill. Having the leftovers benefit an additional three charities takes some co-ordination but, we strive to find homes for everything and not put any items into landfill.
