It is that time of year again- yippee! I am not talking about Spring or a leisurely long weekend…I am talking about our annual, super fun and wildly popular Garage Sale for Shelter!
My motivation for putting on this garage sale year after year is quite simple…half of all Canadian women will experience a violent incident in their lifetime and more than 360,000 children are exposed to violence every year. For me this statistic is a catalyst to find & request donations and sell, sell, sell on garage sale day.
The Garage Sale for Shelter is a national initiative created by Royal LePage through their Shelter Foundation to support women’s shelters and violence prevention. This event has no overhead costs and 100% of our funds raised will be directed towards The Red Door Shelter.
Here are the Top 5 Ways in which you can support this amazing day…
1- Donate, donate, donate. Did I day donate? We need your items to sell on garage sale day- clean out a closet, your shed or your entire house and we will pick up your items. We can take everything and anything except mattresses.
2- Shop, shop, shop. Garage Sale Day is Saturday May 9th @ 71 Pine Cres. Come by and unearth some treasures…every year we have incredible donations from furniture to clothing, kids items, tools and even antique treasures. There are many garage sales in the area…we will even give you a map so you can find the others!
3- If shopping at a garage sale is not a fun experience for you, please just come by and enjoy the BBQ…have a hot dog or hamburger (veggie too) brunch with us. BBQ on 10:30am! Did I mention that a candy floss station has been added this year?
4- VOLUNTEER- do you have an hour to spare on Garage Sale Day? Pleeeeeeeease? We are a little short on volunteers and would love some additional helpers. Do you have a high school student in your family looking to earn volunteer hours? I can help with that!
5- Bake something for us to sell with our BBQ feast…leave the nuts out (please). Any and all baking donations would be appreciated. The Beaches Bake Shop is donating some of their amazing chocolate chip cookies and they usually go fast! http://www.beachesbakeshop.com/
Please support in whatever way you can- it is all so very much appreciated.
Amy & family do an amazing job every year raising so much money for the Red Door Shelter. You should be applauded for all the amazing work you do throughout the year with both this garage sale and the winter clothing drive that you do. Hats off to you Amy & Marija, if everyone gave 1/2 as much time to supporting programs to help the less fortunate the world would be a better place.
I would like to donate! How can I arrange pickup?
Hi Lauren,
can you please let me know where you live and what will be the best time for pick up?And how big are the items so that I know if they will fit in my car or I have to make some other arrangements?
You can send me an email to amypolson@royallepage.ca
Thank you, much appreciated.
Amy
